Peridot the birthstone for August, it has a fine yellow/green, olive green or brownish color.  The best material has an intense yellow green color.   It is found on most of the continents of the world.  In the US it is found in Arizona, Hawaii and New Mexico.  It has good hardness 6.5 to 7 and is durable enough it can be worn in rings.
